As most of you up till now have made your way to some university, its the time to let you know about some tips to survive your days at university before you get acclimatised.
1) Plan Ahead but Live in the Moment:
If you have been living a random life, its now the right time to get yourself organized. If you have streamlined your routines, it really helps you in university life. You must have a picture in your mind what is going to be your possible next move. If you have opted for hostel, you will see that there you will interact different types of students. Mostly students get over chilled at hostel, they are most of the time exploring the city than studying. So you are to keep in mind how should I spend my next couple of hours keeping in mind my academical position and work load. Do enjoy but there should be a trade off between studies and party.
2) Make a To-Do list:
This really helps because sometimes you really forget about the deadlines of quiz and assignments. The moment the teacher announces the quiz or assignment, you should write that down somewhere to minimize the possibility of forgetting it and being astonished at the last moment.
3) Be Social:
Since you will be entering your professional life after university, having an understanding of types of people and how to handle them will help you. Make new friends. Mix up with seniors. Join some society.
4) Ragging:
If you are afraid of being ragged, avoid going to cafes in the first week. Do n't wander alone. Move in a group and stay close to you academic block.
5) Study Routine:
Some students from F.Sc setup are used to doing everything at the last moment. This rarely helps at university because the size of books increases and cramming is not going to help either. You have to clear your concepts because the you are judged on a numerical based paper. If you plan your study routines in a way that you have gone through the lectures of all the courses studied in the week, at the weekend, you are doing it right. Study some stuff during the week and if something lefts behind, do go through it at the weekend.
6) Learn Prioritizing:
You should keep in mind that what matters the most. What is the most important topic in the lectures. The professor usually stresses more on the topics he is going to focus in the exams. So listen carefully to the lectures and prioritize the topics accordingly. So you shall do as far as your other routine tasks are concerned. Like if you four quizes and 2 assignment and your friends have planned a movie too, you should prioritize what you should do first, and what you should postpone.
9) Befriend your Lab Attendant:
You will be having labs for some courses. If you wanna get good marks in the lab assignments and final lab exams and your are a guy, you have to have good friendly sort of relation with the lab attendant.
P.S. They usually give good marks to girls themselves.
8) Don't lose hope:
Sometimes it happens that despite of your hard work you are not getting good grades. You should not shirk working out of disappointment. No exam here is the last exam. If you have done poor in Quizes, keep calm and pick up marks in sessional exams(called OHTs(One Hour Tests) in NUST, You will have two sessional exams in a semester). If you had been unfortunate in the sessionals too, Finals are there for you. Work day in and day out. I assure you, you can do wonders and overturn your overall result by doing good in the final exam. However if despite of you efforts you have failed to do well in exams, remember your experience, knowledge and hard work remains with you. It will never go to useless. You will be benefited from it. As far as GPA is concerned, GPA doesn't matter.
"Man shall find what he strives for"

should we study in a group or should study alone like we used to do in college?
ReplyDeleteEveryone has his own way of studying. What I do is be social, mix up with people, adopt their good habits, learn from them. But study individually and seek help from others if I get stuck somewhere. You may study in groups or individually as you feel convenient.
