Mechatronics Engineering
Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering. As technology advances the subfields of engineering multiply and adapt. Mechatronics' aim is a design process that unifies these subfields. Originally, mechatronics just included the combination of mechanics and electronics, hence the word is a combination of mechanics and electronics; however, as technical systems have become more and more complex the word has been broadened to include more technical areas.
Many people treat "mechatronics" as a modern buzzword synonymous with "electromechanical engineering". However, other people draw a distinction between an "electromechanical component"—does not include a computer; an electro-mechanical computer (such as the Z4)—does not include an electronic computer; vs. a "mechatronic system"—a computer-controlled mechanical system, including both an electronic computer and electromechanical components.

There are a number of opportunities for Mechatronics Option students to not only focus their studies in the classroom, but apply their knowledge in extra curricular projects. There are a multitude of student teams that offer Mechatronics students with exposure to their area of interest. From soccer playing robots to autonomous sailboats, joining students teams offers Mechatronics Option students the ability to do something fun and expand their classroom knowledge.
Labs in the Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program expose Mechatronics Option students to a variety of applications of their specialization. The Mechatronics program is highly customized and offers a mixture of mechanical, electrical and computer labs.

The following picture is showing a robotic arm. It is designed by Mechatronics engineers to help disable people. The arm is set and two input wires one positive and other negative are connected to the brain through an outside connection. After this the arm will follow the instructions directly from the brain. Whatever you'll think your hand will do the same.
Opportunities in Mechatronics
The advancement of technology is driving towards embedded electronics, sensors and actuators. We are all becoming accustomed to automation, elecronics and sensors being a part of our day to day lives. This is where the Mechatronics Engineer comes into the picture.
During your Undergraduate Degree
