NUST School of Natural Sciences (SNS)
Before the construction of H-12 Campus NUST was a university constituting few departments. It was located near MCS, NUST. The department of SNS at that time was known as camp but now after transferring it into NUST H-12 campus it got the name School of Natural Sciences in 2013-14. The building of SNS is unique of its own kind and has two parts. It offers BS Physics and BS Mathematics and also master level degree in these programs. And it also got the honor to offer MPhil and PhD level programs. Initially it had a starting intake of 500 students but later it got some more space and knowledge for more number of students. It has labs with apparatus needed for all Engineering students to do some practical work while doing there 4 year degree program. In the next phase the administration at SNS is thinking of launching BS Chemistry program and later a reasearch program in BS Physics at both levels when labs have been developed.
In particular there is an ongoing collaboration of this school with the center for Differential Equations, continuum mechanics and applications of University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa from which there have been two visits to this school each month. There have also been two Workshops and Symposiums organized by SNS.

Life at SMME
It was a fine morning of February, 2014. I got up with a confused mind, inclined towards doing electrical engineering, but at the same time urging me to do mechanical due to its high merit. After a while my cell phone rang, and a wave of happiness spread over my face and my eyes start to glitter.
After half an hour, I was there, in front of the mighty SMME building all set to have the tour under the guidance of Sir Wajid, the head of Manufacturing and Resource Center (MRC), SMME-NUST. I found out that MRC was a workshop, a really big one. The biggest achievement of MRC is electric shuttles. They were manufactured here and are now seen running within the NUST.
Inter-NUST Shuttle Service |
SMME holds repute for its Mechanical Engineering which in fact is best in Pakistan. Since it is newly established, it has modern labs fully equipped with all the the required instruments and machines. Bigger class rooms, well equipped labs and highly educated faculty, makes the environment congenial for research and studies. Its dream institute for students willing to pursue carrier in mechanical and manufacturing.
SMME arranges Industrial visits for students to renowned industries on regular basis. The main objective behind these visits is to explain the working of industrial equipment in running conditions to the students and tell them about the expectations of the industrialists from the fresh engineers.
SMME also has strong relations with many other national and international companies including Schlumberger, PIA, Uniliver Pakistan, Coca-Cola Pakistan. Due to these strong ties, SMME was able to arrange summer internships for all the students who have completed their first four semesters of Mechanical Engineering.
Schlumberger is the world's leading supplier of technology, integrated project management and information solutions to customers working in the oil and gas |
So long and short of this is, you will be in safe hands in case you are lucky enough to get admission in SMME. Grading of SMME is also very lenient, so you need not to worry about grades.
There are many societies at SMME including American Society of Mechanical Engineering(ASME), Dice, Ashrae. Participation in the societies help you in your personal grooming.
SMME- Sports Gala, an event you should surely look forward if you joined SMME. Here are some picture of Sports Gala 2015.

A team from NUST got selected for Robo Cup to held in China, out of Asia. That is a very big achievement.

A team from NUST-SMME participated in Formula 1 racing at UK just a few days ago. and stood ahead of many esteemed to raise the flag of Pakistan in English airs.
Ladies and Gentlemen car 68 from Pakistan stood ahead of many, honored to raise the flag of Pakistan at the track of Silverstone, high and proud |
SMME has its on perks. Life at SMME is characterized by matchless studies, personal grooming and transforming one into socially active person. If want to do Mechanical Engineering, SMME should be at the top of your list. On being asked to describe SMME in one line, Mr. Sharukh Khan (Student of SMME and Executive of ASME) said:
"An opportunity to pursue your brighter future....."

Which Discipline Should I Choose?
Dad says "Mera beta Electrical karay ga U.E.T Lahore se"
Mom says "Business Studies;Jobs me kuch nhi
rakha beta"
Friends say "Mechanical kar
le, warna pachtaae ga"
Teachers say "PIEAS
jao, 100% job security "
*Too much confusion*
This is the story of every student who is turning over a new leaf
of his life in terms of stepping into professional studies. It is a decision
which is going to matter and delineate your future. That is why students
are a bit extra conscious regarding taking any step. Mark Twain said and I quote:
"Two most important days in you life are the day you were born and the day you find out why"
The reason behind this confusion is that we heed too much what the people would say, whats society will think. Keep in mind dude; its your life. You have got limited time over here. so don't waste it
living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with
the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions
drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow
your heart and intuition. You somehow already know what you truly want to
become. Everything else is secondary.
The best way to make decision is use analytical approach. Search the web for different disciplines. Browse the scope of each, nature of job, ease level etc. Take some aptitude test (many are available on web). Read the articles on the life of peers of different professions.(Scientist: Elbert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Engineer: Michel Faraday, like wise Dr. A.Q.Khan etc) the way they lived, they way they worked, how their stories became success stories. There will be some one whom your mind and heart will idealize.

There will be some one whom your mind and heart will idealize.
After having sound understanding of all disciplines; take a deep breath; go into some silent corner of your
home or somewhere, where you can't hear anyone, Anyone except your inner self.
Somewhere, where the noise of the world can't distort the voice of your heart
and with a peaceful mind ask yourself some questions:
What I am good at?
Doing what gives me real pleasure?
Do I want a white collar job(Software/Electrical/ Business
Studies) or blue color job(Mechanical/ Civil)?
Will I be happy if I pursue my passion or do I want to
please people?
and similar questions.
Surely, you will get the answer.
After you have decided, stick to it. Don't even think what people will think. You
can't make them happy. After ten or twenty years, you will be there with
your choice, not the others. So make a decision that you are sure you will not
regret. Leave the rest to Almighty Allah.
